Sohail Tanvir has urged Pakistan to handle pace bowler Mohammad Hasnain carefully as he is still developing his game and highly inexperienced.

Tanvir played alongside Hasnain in this year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL), where they both played an instrumental role in leading the Quetta Gladiators to their first ever title.

Tanvir was the joint fourth-highest wicket-taker with 15 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 21.73 and an economy rate of 6.93.

As for Hasnain, who was one of the breakout stars in the tournament, he was sixth on the list with 12 victims in seven games at an average of 17.58.

Given his exceptional form in the PSL and the fact that he was bowling at around 150km/h on a consistent basis, Hasnain was picked for the five-match ODI series against Australia in the United Arab Emirates, which is where he is likely to make his international debut.

With Hasnain only having featured in two first-class matches and seven PSL games, Tanvir once again urged Pakistan to keep a close eye on the 18-year-old.

“There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Mohammad Hasnain can bowl with good pace and all the signs are good so far especially given the amazing way he bowled so well in the final of the PSL in front of a jam-packed crowd in Karachi,” Tanvir told PakPassion. “But we will need to be careful in the way we use him in the future as he is still a little raw having played in just two first-class matches.

“There is no doubt that he has the talent, but we need to see how he handles the pressure if given a chance to play in an international game for Pakistan in the upcoming ODI series against Australia. One hopes that he will continue to do well but more importantly, he will need to be utilised correctly by team management.”

The five-match ODI series between Pakistan and Australia begins on Friday in Sharjah.
