Legendary Pakistan pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar and former wicketkeeper-batsman Rashid Latif has called for Karachi Kings left-arm spinner Umer Khan to be included in the country’s World Cup squad.
Umer has been one of standout bowlers in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he took 15 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 16.13.
“He (Umer Khan) got you wickets in crucial situations, choked the run flow and [is] the better choice than anyone else,” Akhtar was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder.
Latif also heaped praise on the 19-year-old, saying he is the best left-arm spinner in the nation right now.
“Umer Khan should be in the World Cup [squad] for Pakistan, Khan is the country’s best left-arm spinner at the moment,” he said.
Pakistan, whose only World Cup triumph came all the way back in 1992 under the captaincy of their current Prime Minister Imran Khan, will begin their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
