Pakistan and Quetta Gladiators batsman Umar Akmal found himself in the social media spotlight for all the wrong reasons as he was roasted for calling the Pakistan Super League (PSL) the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Akmal made the blunder when promoting the Gladiators’ clash against the Karachi Kings on Sunday.
“It is obvious that Quetta is in Karachi and we are playing at our home ground,” Akmal was quoted as saying by The News International. “How much ever the crowd supports, the team will play that much better. If the crowd continues to support us like this then the next IPL, sorry PSL, will be played here only.”
Akmal scored a 20-ball 27 in the match, but his side lost by an agonizing margin of one run and the Kings qualified for the playoffs.
While his side lost the match, Akmal has benefited from a strong showing in the PSL as he was recalled to Pakistan’s ODI squad for the upcoming five-match series against Australia in the United Arab Emirates later this month.
Akmal has not played ODI cricket since January 2017, but is set to make his comeback when the series begins on March 22 in Sharjah.
