New Zealand and Bangladesh were left frustrated as persistent rain led to the first day of the second Test in Wellington being washed out.

Not even a toss was possible as the inclement weather refused to relent.

The umpires ultimately decided to call play off at 3.09pm local time, which was about half an hour before the scheduled tea break.

The forecast for the second day on Saturday remains dreary as the rain is expected to continue falling at least until mid-day.

Due to the entire first day being abandoned, play will start 30 minutes earlier on Saturday at 10:30 local time or 21:30 GMT (the previous day).
