David Saker: “I’ve enjoyed my time with the team, in particular working closely with a great group of fast bowlers”

Australia bowling coach David Saker handed in his resignation on Thursday after occupying the position for three years.

Saker’s decision to step down comes just months before a hectic away schedule for Australia, which will see them feature in the World Cup and Ashes in England later this year.

It has been confirmed that Troy Cooley will temporarily take over Saker’s role for Australia’s limited overs tour of India, where they will play two Twenty20 Internationals and five ODIs, and the tour of the United Arab Emirates, where they will take on Pakistan in a five-match ODI series.

“I’d like to thank David for his significant contribution, in particular for the role he played in helping develop a core group of Australian pace bowlers,” Australia head coach Justin Langer was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au. “I wish David all the best for the next chapter in his coaching career.”

While it remains unclear what the future holds for Saker, he revealed that he is looking forward to taking a break before pursuing a new role.

“I’d like to thank Cricket Australia for the opportunity to help coach the Australian Men’s Team over the past three seasons,” Saker said. “I’ve enjoyed my time with the team, in particular working closely with a great group of fast bowlers and in time will look forward to a new coaching role.”
