Cameron Boyce hammered a 22-ball 51 and took two wickets as the Melbourne Renagdes cruised past the Sydney Thunder by 27 runs.
Choosing to bat first, the Renegades lost opener Mckenzie Harvey early on as he was brilliantly caught by Chris Jordan off the bowling of Jonathan Cook for eight runs.
Sam Harper only made 10 runs before he was clean bowled by Jordan, while skipper Aaron Finch was caught behind in Jordan’s next over after also scoring 10 runs.
With Tom Cooper, Dan Christian, Beau Webster and Mohammad Nabi falling in fairly quick succession, the Renegades found themselves struggling at 90/7.
However, Boyce came to the rescue as he hammered an unbeaten 51, which came off 22 balls and included four boundaries and five sixes, to help his side finish on 140/7.
Cook, Jordan and Fawad Ahmed picked up two wickets apiece, while Daniel Sams chipped in with one.
Chasing 141 to win, the Thunder were dealt a big blow on the fourth ball of their innings as captain Shane Watson was caught by Cooper at extra cover off the bowling of Kane Richardson for four runs.
Jason Sangha only made two runs before he was removed by Richardson.
Anton Devcich mustered 17 runs before he was sent packing by Boyce, while Chris Green was run out by Harvey for one run.
Callum Ferguson managed to score 28 runs before he was caught by Harvey at deep midwicket off the bowling of Chris Tremain.
Wicketkeeper Baxter Holt was the Thunder’s highest scorer with 37 runs, but his efforts went in vain as the lower order completely collapsed after he was dismissed.
As a result of this, the Thunder were skittled out for 113.
Richardson was the most successful bowler with three wickets, while Boyce took two, and Tremain, Christian and Harry Gurney claimed one wicket each.
