Ben Dunk walloped an unbeaten 72 off 53 balls to lead the Melbourne Stars to a convincing 44-run win over the Adelaide Strikers.

Being put in to bat first, the Stars got off to a magnificent start as Dunk and Marcus Stoinis amassed a 113-run partnership, during which both batsmen brought up their half-centuries, before Stoinis was dismissed by Rashid Khan for a 45-ball 53, which included three boundaries.

Dunk and Handscomb kept the runs flowing with a 54-run stand before Handscomb was run out for 36 on the last ball of the innings.

With Dunk finishing undefeated on 72, which came off 53 balls and included four boundaries and three sixes, the Stars made 167/2 off their 20 overs.

Rashid was the only bowler to take a wicket.

Chasing 168 to win, the Strikers lost opener Jake Weatherald early on as he was run out by Jackson Bird for three runs.

Alex Carey, who opened the batting with Weatherald, managed to make 30 before he was caught by Nic Maddinson at deep midwicket off the bowling of Stoinis.

Captain Colin Ingram was the next to go, while Jake Lehmann struck a 32-ball 40 before, which included four boundaries, before he was caught by Stars skipper Glenn Maxwell at mid-off off the bowling of Dwayne Bravo.

Once Lehmann fell, the Strikers completely collapsed as they went from 97/4 to being bowled out for 123.

Stoinis, Bravo and Liam Plunkett claimed three wickets apiece.

Dunk was named Man of the Match.
