Legendary Pakistan left-arm seamer Wasim Akram had questioned why the national team don’t have a mystery spinner.
Akram noted that there are many talented players in the country, but none of them seem to be a mystery spinner.
He also pointed out that nations like Afghanistan have three in the form of Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Zahir Khan.
As a result, he called on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to solve the problem by trying to find a skilful mystery spinner.
“Pakistan does not have a mystery spinner, previously we had two great ones [in] Saqlain Musgtaq and Saeed Ajmal. At the moment, the Pakistan cricket team does not have an off-spinner, we have only one [in] Bilal Asif, who is playing Test cricket,” he was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder. “We only have a right-arm and a left-arm leg-spinner, so I think the PCB and the authorities should look into the situation, as to why there is a dearth of off-spinners, and where to find them.
“There is no shortage of talent in Pakistan, but we don’t have a mystery spinner, whereas, Afghanistan has three in Mujeeb ur Rahman, Zahir Khan and Rashid Khan. So it is a matter of concern.”
And neither do we have aggressive fast bowlers – like Shoaib Akhtar, Waqar Younis, Akram himself, Zahid, Aqib. And they do not play with flair – they play like Englishmen, very proper! They’ve lost their wild abandon, courageous batting like Wasim Raja – they are afraid of losing of losing their positions in the team.
I think Shaheen Afridi and Usman Khan Shinwari have potential, but yes, Pakistan are lacking a standout bowler who is aggressive and bowls at high speeds.
