Ex-Pakistan left-arm seamer Wasim Akram has called on Mohammad Amir to work on his swing if he wants to be more lethal as a bowler.

Amir, also a left-arm fast bowler, was recalled for the ongoing Test series against South Africa after being dropped for the three-Test series against New Zealand in the United Arab Emirates, which Pakistan lost 2-1.

In the two Tests he has played against the Proteas, Amir has taken eight wickets at an average of 23.87.

While Akram noted that Amir needs to work on getting the ball to swing, he was unable to explain why Pakistan’s fast bowlers have been bowling slower than usual.

“I don’t know the reason (for the loss of pace) as I am not with them, but Shaheen Shah Afridi did take wickets but his swing is missing,” Akram was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “Mohammad Amir has also taken wickets but his ball is not coming into the batsman.

“Mohammad Abbas has come back after an injury – he did not have pace even before but these wickets were to his liking but at his medium pace the South Africans knew how to bat against him.

“Mohammad Amir has pace but he has to work on his swing and I am sure he is very talented and he can make a comeback.”
