Legendary Pakistan pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar believes that a lack of preparation was to blame for Mohammad Abbas’ disappointing performance in the second Test against South Africa.
Abbas made his comeback from a shoulder injury in the match in Cape Town, but failed to dazzle as he had done on so many occasions in the past.
The seamer finished with two wickets, with one coming in each innings, as Pakistan lost by nine wickets.
Sharing his thoughts on why Abbas was subpar during the second Test, Akhtar was quoted by the Business Recorder as saying: “He recovered from the injury, however, he didn’t practice much for the Test match. He performed well in the second innings, but it was too late in the day. He would have looked much better if he had played the two Tests.”
Pakistan trail 2-0 going into the third and final Test in Johannesburg, which begins on January 11.
