Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja believes that Imam-ul-Haq and Shan Masood should open the batting in Test cricket, while Fakhar Zaman should be dropped.
Ramiz’s suggestion comes after Zaman only mustered 32 runs in the first two Tests against South Africa at an average of eight.
Imam has scored 71 runs at an average of 17.75, and Ramiz admitted that the 23-year-old has to contribute more if he wants to keep hold of his place in the team.
As for Masood, he has been Pakistan’s standout batsman as he is currently the highest scorer out of both teams with 189 runs, which includes two fifties, at an average of 47.25.
“Pakistan needs to establish its opening pair. I believe Imam-ul-Haq needs to improve his form as he plays quite loosely in these [South African] conditions,” Ramiz was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder. “Pakistan should open with Shan Masood, while Fakhar Zaman should be sidelined.”
With Pakistan trailing 2-0 in the three-Test series, they could make some changes for the third Test, which begins on January 11 in Johannesburg.
Both Ysir & shadab are bad choices Faheem shld b selected
I also felt that Faheem should have been selected. He’s done quite well in the Test matches he has played thus far.
