Legendary West Indies batsman Sir Viv Richards believes that Pakistan are one of the favourites to win the World Cup later this year.
Pakistan have not been in the best form in the 50-over format as of late as during the Asia Cup last September, they lost twice to India and were also beaten by Bangladesh in a must-win match.
They followed that up with a 1-1 draw against New Zealand in the United Arab Emirates, a place where Pakistan have generally been dominant.
However, Pakistan are not the only team Richards sees as favourites as he feels England, India and Australia are also in the running for the coveted trophy.
“England has played well. But always they have fallen short at the last moment. It is a good team always,” he told PTI as quoted by the Business Recorder. “Pakistan and India are two teams that can defeat anyone. Australia is another great team. So, I think there are 4-5 teams that have the potential to win 2019 World Cup.”
When asked about the West Indies’ chances at the World Cup, Richards said: “In a limited overs game, it all depends on how you play on that particular day. If it is a bad day, even a bad team can defeat you. I hope to see the team where it belongs.”
