Tom Curran smashed an unbeaten 23 and took three wickets as the Sydney Sixers cruised past the Melbourne Renegades by 33 runs.

Being put in to bat first, the Sixers lost opener Jack Edwards on the 13th ball of the match as he was clean bowled by Usman Khan Shinwari for five runs.

Daniel Hughes only scored six runs before he was dismissed by Jack Wildermuth.

Joe Denly didn’t fare much better as he was caught by Dan Christian off the bowling of Kane Richardson for 12 runs.

Sixers captain Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk managed to add 38 runs to the score before Henriques was clean bowled by Wildermuth for 20.

Josh Philippe fell shortly after for 20, while Silk went on to make 30 before he was caught and bowled by Richardson.

Sean Abbott was removed on the last ball of the innings for nine runs, but Curran’s 15-ball 23 helped the Sixers finish on 132/7.

Richardson was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Wildermuth snapped up two, and Shinwari and Mohammad Nabi chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 133 to win, the Renegades made a brisk start to their innings before opener Tim Ludeman was cleaned up by Curran for 10 runs.

Cameron White only scored one run, while Mackenzie Harvey scored a 25-ball 30 before he was clean bowled by debutant Ben Manenti.

With Steve O’Keefe ripping through the Renegades’ middle order and Curran taking out the lower order batsmen, the Renegades lost wickets at regular intervals and began to struggle.

With none of their batsmen putting up a fight, the Renegades ended up crawling their way to 99/9 off their 20 overs.

Curran was the most successful bowler with three wickets, while O’Keefe, Manenti and Abbott claimed two wickets each.

Manenti was named Man of the Match.
