Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi believes that Sarfraz Ahmed should give up the Test captaincy, but continue leading the country in limited overs cricket.
Sarfraz’s future as captain has been a hotly contested topic, with some feeling that he needs to give it up entirely, while others think he should continue leading the national team.
However, Afridi’s remarks show that he stands somewhere in the middle, whereby he admitted that stepping down as Test captain would be beneficial for Sarfraz in the long run.
“Before, I was in favour of Sarfraz being captain in all formats. But now the World Cup is coming up and there is a lot of strong cricket to be played,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “I would like him to put Test cricket aside and focus on ODIs and T20Is, this is just my wish for him, it’s his own decision but I am giving advice based on my experience. I think he will be able to deliver better in that way.”
