Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan smashed an unbeaten 42 and took five wickets to lead his side to a 36-run win over the West Indies in Dhaka.
Being put in to bat first, Bangladesh got off to a brisk start as Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das amassed a 42-run partnership in four overs before Tamim was caught by Sheldon Cottrell at short midwicket off the bowling of Fabian Allen for 15.
Liton and Soumya Sarkar kept the scoreboard ticking with a 68-run stand, during which Liton brought up his fifty, before Sarkar was brilliantly caught by West Indies captain Carlos Brathwaite off the bowling of Cottrell for 32.
Liton went on to score a 34-ball 60, which included six boundaries and four sixes, before he was clean bowled by Cottrell.
Mushfiqur Rahim fell shortly after, but Shakib and Mahmudullah ensured Bangladesh concluded their innings with a bang as they forged an unbeaten 91-run partnership. As a result, the hosts finished on 211/4.
Shakib finished on 42, which came off 26 balls and included five boundaries and a six, while Mahmudullah remained undefeated on a 21-ball 43, which included seven boundaries.
Cottrell was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Allen and Oshane Thomas chipped in with one wicket apiece.
Chasing 212 to win, the West Indies lost opener Evin Lewis early on as he was caught by Liton at deep midwicket off the bowling of Abu Hider for one run.
Nicholas Pooran and Shai Hope made up for the loss of Lewis with a 41-run partnership before Pooran was dismissed by Shakib for 14.
Hope went on to score 36 before he was caught by Liton at deep midwicket off the bowling of Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
Shakib took over from that point as he carved through the West Indies’ middle and lower order.
Even though Rovman Powell hammered a 34-ball 50, which included five boundaries and a six, the tourists fell well short of their target as they ended up being bowled out for 175.
Shakib was the most successful bowler with five wickets, while Mustafizur Rahman snapped up two, and Hider, Mahmudullah and Mehidy claimed one wicket each.
Shakib was named Man of the Match.
