Sri Lanka have been dealt a massive blow as captain Dinesh Chandimal has been sidelined for the second Test against England in Kandy with a groin injury.
Chandimal suffered the injury during the first Test in Galle, and he will now be out of action for two weeks, which could result in him missing the third Test in Colombo that starts on November 23.
With Chandimal out of the second Test, pace bowler Suranga Lakmal will take over as captain.
Meanwhile, uncapped batsman Charith Asalanka has been called up to the Test squad as a potential replacement.
Asalanka impressed in the second warm-up game against England as he smashed an unbeaten 68 off 64 balls for the Sri Lanka Board XI.
Asalanka was selected ahead of Lahiru Thirimanne and Kusal Perera, who were the two batsmen on standby.
Sri Lanka trail 1-0 going into the second Test, which begins on November 14.
