Moeen Ali took four wickets as England snapped their longest winless streaks in Tests away from home with a 211-run win over Sri Lanka on the fourth day in Galle.

Prior to this, England’s last overseas Test victory was their 22-run win over Bangladesh in Chittagong in October 2016.

In addition to this, England also secured their first Test win over Sri Lanka in Galle.

Starting off the day on 15/0, Sri Lanka added 36 runs to their overnight score before opener Kaushal Silva was trapped lbw off the bowling of Jack Leach for 30.

Dimuth Karunaratne, who opened the batting with Silva, managed to make 26 before he was caught and bowled by Moeen.

Ben Stokes then removed Dhananjaya de Silva for 21 before Angelo Mathews and Kusal Mendis added 46 runs to the score.

Mendis ended up making 45 before he was caught by Moeen off the bowling of Leach.

Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal failed to have an impact as he was clean bowled by Leach for one run.

Wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella mustered 16 runs before he was removed by Moeen, who also took out Mathews for 53, which came off 92 balls and included five boundaries.

Once Mathews was gone, Sri Lanka began to lose wickets at regular intervals and were ultimately bowled out for 250.

Moeen was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Leach took three, and Stokes and Adil Rashid claimed one wicket each.

Debutant Ben Foakes was named Man of the Match for his scores of 107 and 37.
