Former New Zealand head coach Mike Hesson has been unveiled as the Kings XI Punjab’s new coach, and is set to sign a two-year deal.

Hesson, who stepped down as New Zealand’s coach in July as he wanted to take a “break from the rigours of international cricket”, will replace ex-Australia batsman Brad Hodge as the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise’s coach.

It is understood that Hesson will be given the freedom to appoint his own staff. As a result, it remains to be seen whether former India opener Virender Sehwag will keep hold of his position as the Kings XI’s mentor.

Hesson brings a wealth of experience to his new role as under him, New Zealand reached the final of a World Cup for the first time in history in 2015.
