England spinner Liam Dawson will miss the remainder of the Sri Lanka tour after being diagnosed with a side strain.
With Dawson having been sent back home to recover, Joe Denly, who was picked in the squad for the Test series that begins on November 6, was called up as his replacement for the ongoing ODI series.
Denly was picked for the Test series following a superb season with Kent, where he scored 828 runs, which included three centuries and three fifties, at an average of 34.50. He also took 23 wickets with his leg-spin at an average of 18.52.
Denly arrived in Pallekele just hours before the third ODI. With two more games to go in the series, there is a possibility that the 32-year-old could feature in his first ODI since the 2009 Champions Trophy.
