South Africa batsman Hashim Amla will miss the upcoming limited overs tour of Australia in November as he has been given time off to fully recover from a finger tendon injury.

With the Proteas having a fully packed summer at home and the World Cup next year, head coach Ottis Gibson wants Amla to be completely fit.

“As a selection group we’ve discussed that with him already,” Gibson was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. “We’re going to give him as much time as possible to get himself ready for the next set of cricket he’s got coming up.”

With Amla out of action, it will present yet another opportunity for other batsmen to make their presence felt.

However, Gibson issued a warning to all those aiming to be included in the Proteas’ World Cup squad, saying that the “the window is closing”.

“For the last 12 months we’ve been looking at players, and for the next couple of months the window is closing,” he said. “We’re getting closer and closer to the guys who we want on the journey.”

South Africa’s tour of Australia will consist of three ODIs and a one-off Twenty20 International.

The ODI series will begin on November 4 in Perth, while the Twenty20 International will be held in Queensland on November 17.
