Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq has been sidelined for the second Test against Australia in Abu Dhabi after fracturing the little finger on his left hand.

Imam sustained the injury when diving for the ball while fielding on the fifth day of the first Test in Dubai, which ended as a draw.

Imam batted well in both innings of the first Test as he scored 76 and 48.

Since he will miss the second Test, Pakistan could promote Azhar Ali to replace him at the top of the order.

The other option is to include uncapped all-rounder Fakhar Zaman, who has become one of Pakistan’s most explosive batsmen in limited overs cricket.

Zaman has featured in 37 first-class matches and accumulated 2,389 runs, which includes six centuries and 13 fifties, at an average of 41.91.

The second Test between Pakistan and Australia gets underway on October 16.
