Sri Lanka opener Kaushal Silva has returned to the national team for the upcoming three-Test series against England, which begins on November 6 in Galle.
Silva has not played Test cricket since October 2017, but was recalled since batsman Danushka Gunathilaka is still recovering from a back injury he sustained prior to the recently-concluded Asia Cup.
In July, Silva struck a fantastic 76 against South Africa when playing for the Sri Lanka Board XI in a practice match.
Left-arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara is also back in the side, and will be the fifth spinner alongside Rangana Herath, Lakshan Sandakan, Dilruwan Perera and Akila Dananjaya.
Meanwhile, all-rounder Angelo Mathews has kept his spot in the Test side, even though he was dropped from the ODI squad and stripped of the limited overs captaincy.
Following Sri Lanka’s disastrous Asia Cup campaign, where they were knocked out in the group stage after losing to Bangladesh by 137 runs and Afghanistan by 91 runs, Mathews was sacked as captain and dropped from the ODI squad due to fitness concerns.
In regards to Sri Lanka’s pace attack, it will consist of Suranga Lakmal, Lahiru Kumara and Kasun Rajitha. However, Kumara will have to pass a fitness test prior to the start of the series.
Sri Lanka’s Test squad: Dinesh Chandimal (capt.), Dimuth Karunaratne, Kaushal Silva, Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Niroshan Dickwella, Dhananjaya de Silva, Roshen Silva, Dilruwan Perera, Rangana Herath, Malinda Pushpakumara, Akila Dananjaya, Suranga Lakmal, Kasun Rajitha, Lakshan Sandakan, Lahiru Kumara (subject to fitness)
