Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly firmly believes that Sarfraz Ahmed has done a great job in captaining Pakistan.
Ganguly’s praise for Sarfraz comes after the 31-year-old has been heavily criticised for his style of captaincy in the ongoing Asia Cup.
Pakistan lost to India by eight wickets in the group stage of the Asia Cup. The men in green were then given a major scare by Afghanistan, but managed to escape with a three-wicket win in a nail-biting last-over thriller.
But, things went downhill again as they were thrashed by nine wickets when they faced India again in the Super Four stage of the tournament.
Despite this, Ganguly reiterated that Sarfraz is an excellent cricketer with great leadership qualities.
“Sarfraz is a great captain and cricketers like him are not born every day,” Ganguly told Geo TV as quoted by ANI News. “He is a courageous player and the way he captained the team during the Champions Trophy last year was impeccable.”
Sarfraz and the rest of the Pakistan team will be in action once again on Wednesday, where they will face Bangladesh in a virtual semi-final as the winner will progress to the final of the Asia Cup.
