Fawad Ahmed took three wickets during a highly economical spell as the Trinbago Knight Riders beat the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by 20 runs and progressed to the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) final.
With the Knight Riders winning, they will know face the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final.
Choosing to bowl first, the Patriots got an early breakthrough as Knight Riders opener Colin Ingram was dismissed by Sheldon Cottrell for five runs.
Brendon McCullum and Colin Munro made up for the loss of Ingram with a 71-run partnership before McCullum was trapped lbw off the bowling of Patriots captain Chris Gayle for a 26-ball 43, which included two boundaries and three sixes.
Munro went on to score 29 before he was removed by Ben Cutting.
Darren Bravo made a quickfire 20 before he became Cottrell’s second victim, while Knight Riders skipper Dwayne Bravo hammered an eight-ball 24 before being run out by Devon Thomas.
Kevon Cooper was sent packing shortly after, but with Denesh Ramdin scoring an unbeaten 27, the Knight Riders finished on 165/6 off their 20 overs.
Cottrell was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Cutting, Gayle and Carlos Brathwaite chipped in with one wicket apiece.
Chasing 166 to win, the Patriots were dealt a massive blow on the sixth ball of their innings as Gayle was caught behind off the bowling of Ali Khan for a duck.
Thomas and Rassie van der Dussen added 43 runs to the score before Thomas was clean bowled by Ingram for 35.
Van der Dussen only made 14 before he was caught and bowled by Sunil Narine.
Once Van der Dussen was gone, the Patriots lost wickets at regular intervals courtesy of Fawad and went from 50/3 to being reduced to 98/7.
Even though Brathwaite and Fabian Allen fought valiantly and forged a 45-run stand, the Patriots still ended up falling short of their target as they concluded their innings on 145/8.
Fawad was the most successful bowler with three wickets, while Narine took two wickets apiece. As for Ali, Ingram and Cooper, they claimed one wicket each.
Fawad was named Man of the Match.
