Former Pakistan batsman Zaheer Abbas believes that opener Fakhar Zaman will be the standout player in the upcoming Asia Cup.

Abbas pointed out that Zaman has been in red-hot form as of late as he excelled in the recent five-match ODI series against Zimbabwe.

Zaman made history during the series as he struck a career-best 210 not out in the fourth ODI.

Zaman joined an elite club following his spectacular knock as he became just the sixth player to score a double century in ODI cricket.

In addition, his knock was the fifth-highest in ODI history and the highest by a Pakistani batsman.

In addition to his spectacular double century, Zaman also became the fastest batsman to score 1,000 ODI runs with his knock of 85 in the fifth ODI.

Overall, Zaman scored 515 runs in five ODIs, which included two centuries and two fifties, at an average of 257.50.

The 71-year-old feels that if Zaman keeps performing to that level, it will be extremely difficult for any team to defeat Pakistan.

“If you ask me to name one Pakistani player whom I believe has the capability to light up the Asia Cup then I would say Fakhar Zaman,” he was quoted as saying by The News International. “He is in great form and if he gets going, then it is going to be difficult for [his] opponents to stop Pakistan.”
