Fawad Ahmed took a three-wicket haul and Denesh Ramdin hammered a 31-ball 51 as the Trinbago Knight Riders beat the Barbados Tridents by nine runs.

Being put in to bat first, the Knight Riders got off to a flying start, scoring 35 runs in less than three over, before opener Chris Lynn was clean bowled by Chemar Holder for a 10-ball 29.

Ramdin and Colin Munro made up for the loss of Lynn with a 75-run partnership before Munro was dismissed by Imran Khan for 28.

Ramdin went on to score 51, which came off 31 balls and included five boundaries and two sixes, before he became Imran’s second victim.

Brendon McCullum fell shortly after, but Darren Bravo and Knight Riders captain Dwayne Bravo steadied things with a 52-run stand.

Dwayne Bravo ended up making a 20-ball 33 before he was caught behind off the bowling of Chemar Holder.

Darren Bravo, meanwhile, struck an unbeaten 20 as the Knight Riders finished on 180/5.

Imran and Chemar Holder picked up two wickets apiece, while Mohammad Irfan chipped in with one.

Chasing 181 to win, the Tridents made a disappointing start to their innings as opener Tion Webster was clean bowled by Fawad for 16.

Sunny Sohal, who opened the batting with Webster, suffered the same fate after scoring 22.

Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran stabilised the innings with a 45-run partnership before Hope was stumped by Ramdin off the bowling of Fawad for 26.

Pooran and Tridents skipper Jason Holder kept the runs flowing with a 50-run stand before Pooran was run out for a 32-ball 44, which included two boundaries and four sixes.

Jason Holder went on to score 21 before being removed by Ali Khan.

Despite Roston Chase and Shamar Springer making an unbeaten 14 and 12 not out respectively, the Tridents fell short of their target as they finished on 171/5 off their 20 overs.

Fawad was the most successful bowler with three wickets, while Ali claimed one.

Fawad was named Man of the Match.
