Australia batsman Steve Smith will miss the rest of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) after being diagnosed with a side strain.
Smith’s injury was revealed by Barbados Tridents captain Jason Holder during the toss in the match against the St Lucia Stars on Sunday.
Tridents head coach Robin Singh has since revealed that Smith has returned back to Australia to undergo treatment.
Smith was signed by the Tridents as a replacement for Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.
He was cleared to play in the CPL after being banned from international cricket for a year due to his involvement in the ball tampering scandal that shocked the cricketing community earlier this year.
In the seven games he played for the Tridents, Smith scored 185 runs, which included a half-century, at an average of 26.42. He also took three wickets at an average of 20.
