Rovman Powell hammered a 37-ball 64 to lead the Jamaica Tallawahs to a 21-run win over the St Lucia Stars.

Choosing to bat first, the Tallawahs made a brisk start to their innings before Glenn Phillips was dismissed by Kesrick Williams for 17.

Phillips’ opening partner, Johnson Charles, went on to score 34 before he was removed by Qais Ahmad.

Powell and Kennar Lewis stabilised the innings with a 100-run partnership, during which Powell raced past his fifty, before Lewis was caught behind off the bowling of Williams for 33.

Williams struck again five balls later as he took out Tallawahs captain Andre Russell for two runs.

Powell went on to score 64 off 37 balls, which included two boundaries and five sixes, before he was dismissed by Obed McCoy.

With David Miller hammering an unbeaten 32 off 13 balls towards the end of the innings, the Tallawahs finished on 204/5.

Williams was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Qais and McCoy chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 205 to win, the Stars lost opener Mark Chapman on the second ball of the innings as he was brilliantly caught by Adam Zampa off the bowling of Oshane Thomas for four runs.

Rahkeem Cornwall fell shortly after, but Andre Fletcher and David Warner steadied things with a 44-run partnership before Fletcher was removed by Powell for 21.

Warner and Stars captain Kieron Pollard added 45 runs to the score before Warner was caught by Charles at short third man off the bowling of Zampa for a 26-ball 42, which included five boundaries and a six.

Pollard and Lendl Simmons kept the runs flowing with a 59-run stand before Pollard was clean bowled by Russell for 46, which came off 27 balls and included four boundaries and two sixes.

Darren Sammy only scored two runs, while Simmons ended up making a 26-ball 45, which included four boundaries and three sixes, before he was run out by Thomas.

Despite Warner, Pollard and Simmons’ contributions, the Stars ended up falling short of their target as they finished on 183/8 off their 20 overs.

Thomas and Russell took two wickets apiece, while Powell, Zampa and Imad Wasim claimed one wicket each.

Powell was named Man of the Match.
