St Kitts and Nevis Patriots left-arm seamer Sheldon Cottrell took three wickets to lead his side to a comfortable seven-wicket win over the St Lucia Stars.

Choosing to bowl first, the Patriots got their first breakthrough on the fourth ball of the match as Stars opener Andre Fletcher was caught and bowled by Cottrell for eight runs.

Rahkeem Cornwall only scored four runs before he was dismissed by Mahmudullah.

Mahmudullah struck again in his next over as Lendl Simmons was stumped by Devon Thomas after scoring two runs.

Stars captain Kieron Pollard failed to have an impact with the bat as well as he was removed by Cottrell for four runs.

David Warner, who opened the batting with Fletcher, only mustered 14 runs before he was brilliantly caught by Ben Cutting off the bowling of Sandeep Lamichhane.

The Stars continued to lose wickets at regular intervals after Warner’s dismissal, and even though Qais Ahmad smashed an 18-ball 24, they were skittled out for 69.

Cottrell was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Mahmudullah and Lamichhane snapped up two wickets apiece. As for Cutting and Carlos Brathwaite, they chipped in with one wicket each.

Chasing 70 to win, the Patriots lost opener Evin Lewis early on as he was caught by Warner at mid-on off the bowing of Mitchell McClenaghan for 13.

Brandon King managed to make 17 runs before he was given out lbw off the bowling of Kavem Hodge.

Tom Cooper was run out shortly after, but Thomas led the Patriots to victory with an unbeaten 38, which came off 21 balls and included five boundaries and a six.

McClenaghan and Hodge claimed one wicket each.

Cottrell was named Man of the Match.
