Pakistan bowling coach Azhar Mahmood has heaped praise on opening batsman Fakhar Zaman following his outstanding performance in the recent five-match ODI series against Zimbabwe.
Zaman made history during the series as he struck a career-best 210 not out in the fourth ODI.
Zaman joined an elite club following his spectacular knock as he became just the sixth player to score a double century in ODI cricket.
In addition, his knock was the fifth-highest in ODI history and the highest by a Pakistani batsman.
Overall, Zaman scored 515 runs in five ODIs, which included two centuries and two fifties, at an average of 257.50.
“The manner in which Fakhar Zaman has become the quickest batsmen in history to reach 1000 runs in ODIs in only 18 innings speaks volumes about his talent and skills,” Mahmood wrote in his blog for PakPassion. “He is a batsman who wants to learn every day and his work ethic, whether it is to improve or practice his batting or fielding is simply brilliant which is something you need to succeed at the top-level.
“This is exactly why we also picked him recently in the Test squad. On top of that, he is a brave player and if you want proof of that, you simply need to look at the number of times he has been hit on his body and how it’s not affected his drive to take on fresh challenges. To have a player of his calibre in the national side is a great sign for the future of Pakistan cricket.”
