Sri Lanka batsman Danushka Gunathilaka has been suspended for six international matches for breaching Sri Lanka Cricket’s Player Code of Conduct and Contractual Obligation.
It is understood that Gunathilaka serious breached the curfew that was set in place during the second Test against South Africa in Colombo.
As a result, Gunathilaka won’t receive his match fees for that game, “along with any bonus and or other payments in connection thereto”, according to a board release as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Three of the matches Gunathilaka is banned for relates to violating the code of conduct, while the other three were part of a one-year suspended sentence from October last year.
Gunathilaka had initially been suspended for six matches last year, but it was reduced to three. In addition to this, he was fined 20 percent of his annual contract.
Meanwhile, there have been rumours that Gunathilaka was a suspect in a police investigation relating to a sexual assault case that allegedly occurred at the team’s hotel.
However, the police have confirmed that the 27-year-old is not under investigation, and added that another man, who Gunathilaka allegedly knows, has been arrested.
