Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed lauded his side for whitewashing Zimbabwe 5-0 in the recently concluded ODI series since he believes it will aid their preparation for the Asia Cup in September.

Pakistan will face India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and the winner of the Asia Cup Qualifier, which will be between Hong Kong, Malaysia, Nepal, Oman, Singapore or the United Arab Emirates.

While Sarfraz knows that winning the Asia Cup won’t be an easy feat, he is confident that his side can emerge victorious if they continue to dominate like they did throughout the ODI series against Zimbabwe.

“We were keen to use this series as preparation for Asia Cup and we learnt a lot here,” Sarfraz was quoted as saying by The Express Tribune. “Zimbabwe team is not the same as it was in the past but it’s not our fault to be playing against a young team.

“We took each match one by one and the credit goes to the players as they were focused and didn’t take Zimbabwe lightly. We weren’t thinking about whitewash. It was a combined team effort and everyone stepped up and performed.”
