Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza is likely to miss the upcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies since his wife is ill.
Mortaza has until Friday to inform the national selectors if he will participate in the series as the ODI squad flies out to the Caribbean on Saturday.
Should he opt out of the series, the selectors will name a replacement for him.
“Mashrafe’s involvement in the ODI series is in doubt,” chief selector Minhajul Abedin told ESPNcricinfo. “I spoke to him last night. His wife is really sick. I don’t think he will be able to go to the West Indies.”
If Mortaza is ruled out of the series, Shakib Al Hasan will take over as captain.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh seamer Shafiul Islam suffered an ankle injury while training on Tuesday, and it set to be sidelined for the second Test against the West Indies in Jamaica, which begins on Thursday.
The three-match ODI series between the West Indies and Bangladesh gets underway on July 22.
