Sri Lanka have been dealt two massive blows as all-rounder Angelo Mathews and pace bowler Lahiru Gamage have been ruled out for the rest of the ongoing tour of the West Indies.
Mathews will return to Sri Lanka due to personal reasons, while Gamage sustained a fractured finger during the first Test in Trinidad.
A Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) official told Cricbuzz that Mathews was forced to rush back home due to an urgent family matter.
As for Gamage, he was struck on the glove while batting on the fifth day of the first Test by West Indies seamer Shannon Gabriel.
With the duo out for the rest of the tour, Sri Lanka have called up batsman Danushka Gunathilaka and all-rounder Dasun Shanaka as their replacements.
However, Gunathilaka and Shanaka are unlikely to feature in the second Test in St Lucia on Thursday as they will only leave Sri Lanka on the eve of the match.
Despite this, Sri Lanka have options to choose from as Dhananjaya de Silva and Mahela Udawatta can take Mathews’ spot, while Kasun Rajitha and Asitha Fernando can replace Gamage.
Sri Lanka will go into the second Test 1-0 down in the three-match series as they lost the first Test by 226 runs.
