South Africa pace bowler Kagiso Rabada has expressed his desire to be fully fit prior to the tour of Sri Lanka in July.
Rabada was diagnosed with a lower back stress reaction, which he sustained in the fourth Test against Australia in Johannesburg.
As a result of his injury, which will take three months to heal, Rabada was ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he was supposed to represent the Delhi Daredevils.
However, the 23-year-old confirmed that his rehabilitation is going well, and reiterated that he is determined to feature in the series against Sri Lanka.
“I’ve been taking it one week at a time,” he was quoted as saying by Sport24. “When I got injured there was a plan for three months that I should be ready for Sri Lanka, so let’s see if the plan is going to go accordingly. At the moment it’s all good. So, we’re waiting until July.”
South Africa’s tour of Sri Lanka, which will begin on July 12, will consist of two Tests, five ODIs and a one-off Twenty20 International.
