After more than three years, the West Indies have recalled batsman Devon Smith to the Test squad for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka.
Smith last played Test cricket in April 2015, but regained his spot in the side after being the highest run-scorer in the 2017-18 Regional Four-Day Tournament, where he represented the Windward Islands.
Smith played 10 matches and scored 1,095 runs, which included six centuries and a fifty, at a brilliant average of 84.23.
Meanwhile, uncapped wicketkeeper-batsman Jahmar Hamilton has been included in the team, but batsmen Sunil Ambris and Jermaine Blackwood, all-rounder Raymon Reifer and pace bowler Alzarri Joseph, who is recovering from a stress fracture in his back, have all been dropped.
The axed quartet were all part of the squad for the West Indies’ last Test assignment, which came against New Zealand in December.
In the two-Test series, Ambris scored 25 runs at an average of 8.33, while Reifer scored 52 runs and took two wickets in the one Test he played. However, Blackwood and Joseph did not feature in any of the Tests against the Black Caps.
The Test series between the West Indies and Sri Lanka will begin on June 6 in Trinidad. The second Test will be held in St Lucia on June 14, while the third Test, which will be the first-ever day-night Test in the Caribbean, will be played in Barbados and get underway on June 23.
