New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman Luke Ronchi and left-arm seamer Mitchell McClenaghan have been added to the ICC Rest of the World XI squad for the Hurricane Relief T20 Challenge charity match against the West Indies at Lord’s on May 31.
The duo are the last players to be included in the squad, which also features Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan, Sri Lanka all-rounder Thisara Perera, the Pakistan duo of Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik, the Bangladesh duo of Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal, and India’s Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik.
The ICC Rest of the World XI will be captained by England limited overs skipper Eoin Morgan.
“I’m looking forward to being a part of the World XI at Lord’s for the charity match against the Windies on the 31st of May, that will be raising funds to help with the rebuilding of cricket venues which were damaged by the two hurricanes in the Caribbean last year,” Ronchi, who recently played for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. “It is all for a worthy cause and it feels really good to see so many cricketers from different countries come together for such a reason.
“To be playing a match which will see some of the very best in action together is a matter of great pride for me. I’m looking forward to seeing a packed house at Lord’s, supporting the relief effort, and an exciting game of cricket.”
McClenaghan, who is currently representing the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL), added: “This will be a fantastic spectacle. I’m looking forward to participating with a great bunch of guys and look forward to doing those who will benefit from this match proud.”
The one-off Twenty20 International will help raise funds for five cricket grounds in the Caribbean that were damaged by hurricanes Irma and Maria – James Ronald Webster Park in Anguilla, Dominica’s Windsor Park Stadium, Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua, A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground in the British Virgin Islands and Carib Lumber Ball Park in St Maarten.
