Legendary Pakistan batsman Younis Khan has admitted that he would gladly welcome all-rounder Fawad Alam in the Test team if he were captain.

Younis’ comments come after Alam was ignored for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England, even though his average for the past four seasons of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy has been 40.71, 55.54, 56 and 71.90.

Younis is the latest former Pakistan player to disapprove of the decision to snub Alam after Wasim Akram and Rashid Latif.

“Fawad would have been in my Test squad if I were the captain,” he was quoted as saying by the Daily Times.

He was also quoted by Geo News as saying: “He is unlucky that, despite scoring [massive runs] in first-class cricket, he is being ignored.”

When asked about the criticisms about Alam’s batting technique, Younis said: “I refuse to believe it.”

Meanwhile, with Pakistan having chosen a younger team for the tours of Ireland and England, Younis admitted that they could be in for a tough time, especially in the latter series.

“When we toured England in 2016 under Misbah’s captainship, we [managed to draw] but didn’t win the series,” he said.
