Pakistan chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq has made it clear that Sarfraz Ahmed “must stay as captain” and lead the national team in next year’s World Cup in England and Wales.
Sarfraz achieved a historic first as skipper last year as he led Pakistan to Champions Trophy glory for the first time.
However, as of late, there has been debate over whether he is the right person to captain Pakistan, especially after the team were whitewashed 5-0 in their recent ODI series in New Zealand.
There was also reports of a rift between him and pace bowler Hasan Ali, but Sarfraz played it down.
Despite all this, Inzamam has backed Sarfraz to keep captaining Pakistan.
“The way Sarfaraz has led Pakistan in last one year has left no doubt that he should be retained as captain,” the former Pakistan skipper was quoted as saying by Pakistan Today. “He is and he must stay as captain.”
