Sri Lanka spinner Ramith Rambukwella was arrested on charges of drunk driving and assault on Friday night in Colombo.

Sri Lanka Police told ESPNcricinfo that Rambukwella was arrested on Nawala Road and will appear in Aluthkade Magistrate court on Saturday.

It is also understood that Rambukwella, who last played for Sri Lanka in July 2016, assaulted two university students.

Rambukwella, who has played two Twenty20 Internationals, has been in hot water in the past as in September 2016, he was detained after crashing his car into a wall in Colombo.

Back in 2013, he gave passengers a major scare on a British Airways flight from St Lucia to London’s Gatwick airport as he attempted to open the airline’s cabin door at 35,000 feet.
