Bangladesh have been dealt a massive blow as captain Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka as he has not fully recovered from a finger injury.
Shakib injured the little finger on his left hand during the ODI tri-series against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka in January.
He subsequently missed the Test and Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka, and was also sidelined for the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL).
However, after speaking to two orthopedists in Bangkok, it seems as if the 30-year-old’s injury will take longer than expected to heal.
As a result, Mahmudullah will take over as captain, while wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Das has called up to replace him.
The Nidahas Trophy will begin on Tuesday, with Sri Lanka and India going up against each other in Colombo. Bangladesh’s first game will be against India on Thursday.
