India batsman Ambati Rayudu has admitted that he is bubbling with excitement for the Indian Premier League (IPL) opener between the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings on April 7.
Rayudu used to represent the Indians until last year, but in the IPL auction last month, he was purchased by the Super Kings for INR 2.2 crores.
Even though he will be going up against his former side, Rayudu recalled what it was like when the two franchises clashed with each other in previous editions of the IPL.
“I have played against Chennai Super Kings on numerous occasions and there was never a more important match than that for Mumbai Indians,” Rayudu was quoted as saying by circle of cricket. “Both are champion teams. Very different philosophies but the bottom line is to be champions.
“If there was one team that could beat MI even when they were playing at their best, that was CSK. CSK always appeared very calm and composed and they always had a clear mindset and backed themselves.”
The 32-year-old also admitted that he is thrilled to be playing alongside MS Dhoni, who will captain the Super Kings.
Lavishing praise on Dhoni, Rayudu said: “MS Dhoni is a true legend of the game and arguably the best captain our country has produced.
“What I feel makes him such a great leader, other than his calm and composed nature under pressure, is his simplicity and good nature as a human being which automatically makes all the team members trust him and his decisions blindly and give more than 100 percent for him and the team.”
