Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of the first Twenty20 International against Sri Lanka as he has failed to sufficiently recover from a finger injury.

Shakib, who was named in the Twenty20 squad, sustained the finger injury during the recent ODI tri-series, which involved Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. As a result, he missed the two-Test series against Sri Lanka.

With Shakib out, Mahmudullah will step in as captain. The 32-year-old also captained Bangladesh during the Test series against Sri Lanka.

It has also been confirmed that uncapped left-arm spinner Nazmul Islam will take Shakib’s spot on the roster.

The first Twenty20 International between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be held on February 15 in Dhaka.

Bangladesh’s squad for first T20 International: Mahmudullah (capt), Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Sabbir Rahman, Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Mohammad Saifuddin, Abu Hider, Abu Jayed, Ariful Hoque, Mahedi Hasan, Zakir Hasan, Afif Hossain, Nazmul Ismail
