Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Perera will play no part in the upcoming two-match Twenty20 series against Bangladesh as has yet to sufficiently recover from a side strain.
Kusal sustained the injury during the recent ODI tri-series, which also included Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.
Since he has been ruled out of the series, batsman Kusal Mendis will take his place in the squad.
“According to medical advice, Perera needs more time to recover from the side strain,” a statement from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said.
Kusal joins all-rounder Angelo Mathews on the list of players missing the Twenty20 series as the latter is still recovering from a hamstring injury.
However, Mathews is aiming to make his comeback during next month’s Nidahas Trophy, which is a T20 tri-series in which Sri Lanka will host India and Bangladesh to celebrate their 70th year of independence.
They will now be looking to finish the tour on a high by winning the Twenty20 series, which begins on February 15 in Dhaka.
