England captain Eoin Morgan could potentially miss the remainder of the T20 tri-series after he sustained a groin injury.
Morgan strained his right groin while training on Friday and subsequently missed England’s clash with Australia in Melbourne on Saturday, which they lost by seven wickets.
Jos Buttler stood in as captain for the fixture against Australia and admitted that is remains unclear how serious Morgan’s injury is.
“He got a little niggle yesterday in training,” Buttler was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au. “I don’t think we quite know the extent of it yet so we’ll wait and find out.”
While Australia have already booked their spot in the final, England will now face New Zealand in Wellington on February 13 and in Hamilton on February 18.
A victory in one of those games would keep them on track to make the final.
“That’s the beauty of a tri-series. We still have a chance to make that final,” Buttler said. “We obviously go to New Zealand now. It’ll be a nice change of scene, I think, for the England side.
“We haven’t showcased our ability as we know we can yet and there’s guys in that dressing room who’ll be determined to come back strong.”
