Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi hammered a 26-ball 45 before taking a wicket as his side defeated Zimbabwe by 17 runs in Sharjah and claimed a 2-0 series win.
Choosing to bowl first, Zimbabwe got an early breakthrough as Blessing Muzarabani dismissed the dangerous Mohammad Shahzad for 17.
Karim Safiq and captain Asghar Stanikzai made up for the loss of Shahzad with a 56-run partnership before Stanikzai was clean bowled by Zimbabwe skipper Graeme Cremer for 27.
Sadiq went on to make 28 before he was stumped by Brendan Taylor off the bowling of Cremer.
Nabi and Najibullah Zadran stabilised the innings with a 51-run stand before Najibullah, who made 24, became Muzarabani’s second victim.
Even though Afghanistan began to lose wickets in a hurry after Najibullah’s dismissal, including that of Nabi, who struck two boundaries and four sixes during his 26-ball 45, Afghanistan finished on 158/9 off their 20 overs.
Tendai Chatara was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Muzarabani, Cremer and Kyle Jarvis chipped in with two wickets apiece.
Chasing 159 to win, Zimbabwe lost opener Solomon Mire in the third over as he was cleaned up by Mujeeb Ur Rahman for two runs.
Mire’s opening partner, Hamilton Masakadza, managed to make 29 before he was caught by Stanikzai at short midwicket off the bowling of Mujeeb.
Taylor fell shortly after, but Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl steadied the ship with a 53-run partnership before Raza was trapped lbw off the bowling of Rashid Khan for a 26-ball 40, which included five boundaries and a six.
Burl proceeded to make 30, but despite his and Raza’s efforts with the bat, it was not enough to get their side across the finish line.
Mujeeb and Rashid took two wickets apiece, while Nabi claimed one.
Nabi was named Man of the Match.
