Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan attracted a lot of attention at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, but he will once again represent the Sunrisers Hyderabad after they used their Right to Match Card (RTM Card) to retain his services for INR 9 crores.
Rashid is currently participating in the Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia, where his team, the Adelaide Strikers, have qualified for the semi-finals.
Given the price he fetched at the auction, Strikers pace bowler Peter Siddle revealed that Rashid will be treating the entire team for dinner.
“He’s taking everyone out for dinner this week,” Siddle was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au. “We’re looking forward to that – I think the boys aren’t going to eat for a couple of days, then load up on Rash.
“But it was amazing for him, from his background and how hard he works to perfect his game and to make cricket a living, not just for him but looking after his family back home (in Afghanistan).
“I spoke to him this morning, he was very nervous over the weekend with the wait but he’s very excited now that it’s over and done with.”
However, Siddle insisted that even though Rashid is excited to be heading back to India for the IPL, he is staying focused on guiding the Strikers to BBL glory. The first step on the path to being crowned champions will be their semi-final clash against the Melbourne Renegades on February 2 at the Adelaide Oval.
“I think a lot of boys get nervous about the (IPL) auction, but it’s finally out of the way,” Siddle said. “He’s got his team, his got the bid that went very well for him so he’s a very happy man.
“But he did say he’ll be a lot happier if he gets the win on Friday night, so that’s good to see that he’s still thinking of the Adelaide boys.”
