South Africa captain Faf du Plessis is optimistic that wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock will shake off his disappointing run of form with the bat.

In the ongoing Test series against India, which South Africa have already won, De Kock has only scored 63 runs in the first two Tests at an average of 15.75.

Despite this, Du Plessis reiterated that the 25-year-old will be back to his best in no time.

“The key to a player like Quinton is not to over-analyse or over-complicate things,” Du Plessis was quoted as saying by sacricketmag.com. “But this is normal for a guy who goes one, two or five Test matches without scoring runs. With Quinny, that’s the last thing you want to do.

“His biggest asset is that he is a free player. When he’s on form, he completely shifts the pressure back on to the opposition.

“Obviously, we know he wants to score runs. But from a team perspective, we tell him to keep that positive intent and when he gets an opportunity to score runs, to cash in. He will be very hungry to put in a play in this last Test match.”

With South Africa already 2-0 up in the series, they will be looking to complete a 3-0 series whitewash in the third Test in Johannesburg, which begins on January 24.
