Angelo Mathews has been plagued with hamstring and leg injuries over the last 18 months

Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews could be sidelined for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh after sustaining a hamstring injury.

Mathews suffered the injury during Sri Lanka’s loss to Zimbabwe in the ongoing ODI tri-series and has since been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament.

He has travelled back to Colombo for treatment, but while it was hoped that he would be fully fit towards the end of the tri-series, his road to recovery has once again been slow.

While Mathews’ injury is neither a strain nor a tear, it has been diagnosed as irritation of scar tissue from previous injuries.

Given that Mathews has suffered from hamstring and leg problems over the past 18 months, there is a possibility he will miss the Test series against Bangladesh in order to make a full recovery.

That being said, the timing of his injury is not great as he regained the limited overs captaincy only recently.

Sri Lanka’s two-Test series against Bangladesh begins on January 31 in Chittagong.
