Sean Abbott scythed through the Brisbane Heat’s batting line-up with a four-wicket haul to lead the Sydney Sixers to a nine-wicket win.

As a result of their victory, the Sixers moved up to sixth place on the Big Bash League (BBL) standings, while the Heat are in fifth.

Choosing to bowl first, the Sixers got an early breakthrough as captain Johan Botha removed Heat skipper Brendon McCullum for just one run.

Marnus Labuschagne and Sam Heazlett fell shortly after before Alex Ross and Jimmy Peirson temporarily stemmed the bleeding with a 31-run partnership.

However, with Abbott taking out Peirson and Ross in the same over, the Heat’s collapse continued.

Nathan Lyon dismissed Ben Cutting before Abbott returned to send Jason Floros and Mark Steketee packing for three and five runs respectively.

With none of the Heat batsmen able to put up a fight, they ended up being skittled out for a dismal 73.

Abbott was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Lyon and Carlos Brathwaite snapped up two wickets apiece. As for Botha and Ben Dwarshuis, they chipped in with one wicket each.

Chasing 74 to win, the Sixers got off to a great start as openers Joe Denly and Daniel Hughes amassed a 49-run partnership before Hughes was trapped lbw off the bowling of Yasir Shah for 37, which came off 28 balls and included four boundaries and a six.

Denly and Nic Maddinson mopped up the remaining runs as the Sixers got across the finish line with 10 overs to spare.

Denly finished on 19 off 24 balls, which included two boundaries and a six, while Maddinson remained undefeated on 17 off eight deliveries, which included two sixes.

Yasir was the only bowler to take a wicket.

Abbott was named Man of the Match.
